Straightened times lead to battery theft vulnerability
A combination of tough economic times and higher scrap prices has created an unexpected risk for commercial vehicle owners – battery theft.
With many commercial vehicle batteries costing well over £100, opportunist thieves are targeting vulnerable vehicles in a bid to make a fast buck. But it is not simply the cost of a replacement battery that is hitting fleet owners; it is the inconvenience and downtime cause by a vehicle left stranded without its battery, not to mention loss of customer service.
Leading waste battery and collection service G & P Batteries is warning commercial fleet owners to be particularly vigilant about battery security. “Whilst it is common practice to ensure load security, battery security is often overlooked,” said Managing Director Michael Green. “But when you consider the upset a lost battery can cause to delivery schedules, it is a factor to take seriously.”
